"Tenor saxophonist Benny Golson is one of jazz’s stellar figures. Having played with Dizzy Gillespie and Art Blakey, the early ’60s saw him striking out on his own, co-forming The Jazztet with trumpeter-flugelhornist Art Farmer. By the early ’70s he was established as a Hollywood composer, and during the latter part of that decade he became involved with the fusion style of jazz. This reissue comprises 1977’s Killer Joe, the first of his two Columbia albums, which features a funky update of the eponymous Golson-penned jazz standard. Also on offer are the sinuous cop show grooves of Walkin’ and Stalkin’ and Timbale Rock,
