"Most of the music contained in this album originates from recordings I made in London in 1982, whilst working on the score for the film Blade Runner. Finding myself unable to release these recordings at the time, it is with great pleasure that I am able to do so now. Some of the pieces contained will be known to you from the Original Soundtrack of the film, whilst others are appearing here for the first time. Looking back at Ridley Scott's powerful and evocative pictures left me as stimulated as before, and made the recompiling of this music, today, an enjoyable experience."

How fresh and futuristically timeless this work by Vangelis still holds up! While every critic has used terms like ethereal, mesmerizing, other-worldly, dream-like, etc., etc., one thing remains; This is the ultimate soundtrack for any future sci-fi film out there (some would claim maybe John Williams' Star Wars soundtrack is the king---but remember, we're talking electronic wizardry here, not symphonic or classical).
The bonus tracks not in the film are very intriguing and captivating in their own right and blend in so well with the on-film tracks.

The strongest non-soundtrack tracks are the seductively hypnotic Wait For Me and the melodically enchanting Rachel's Song.

One can feel the tension or the build up in Blush Response with it's electronically thundering and repetitve clashing cymbals and slapping percussion(for those that remember the scene in the film this is where Detective Deckard is testing Rachel Tyrell to indulge creator Eldon Tyrell's purpose or point). Blade Runner Blues,Memories of Green and the Love Theme are the soothing jazz-like("electronically warm"), melancholy counterpoints to some of the other tracks which paint a very dark and bleak and sometimes chaotic and menacing future world in 2019 drenched and flooded in cold night rain and hot neon-ad lights.

Essentially, what you get from Vangelis is a richly and texturally painted musical sci-fi panorama that beneath it's cold synthesized surface (as described by some)emanates a sound of escapism that to this day is not duplicated by any other artist. It can't be. Hopefully, sometime in the near future,
