This is a good album. Not all the songs are good, but it is still worth buyng because there are lots of great songs. Elle King has a unique voice and sound. It is refreshing to hear rock and roll, especially from a woman, in this pop landscape that currently is stinking up the airwaves.
Amazing album. I am ridiculously in love with her voice! Every song on the album is phenomenal.
Johnny Cash reincarnated as Adele with a battered guitar, borrowed banjo, booming bass drum and beer covered bar piano- Honey coated AWESOMENESS!
I came across this album completely by accident and loved the power in her raspy Janis Joplin esque belts while she still can slow it down or soften it into breathy vocals that are completely sensual, almost burlesque like sexuality.
I am not trying to pigeon hole this album at all. On the contrary, I found many interesting elements that blended so well because of her unique vocal quality. What a star! It's got some folk as well as southern gothic hints. Ex's and Oh's (great title) had all that and a little swing ability. If you listen closely, you might even hear a tiny bit of that old 20's rag time swank like on Ain't Gonna Drown. I loved the little bit of banjo blended in.
