''Guano Apes never did really fit in with all the bands they were lumped in with around the turn of the century. They used a lot of the same sounds as nu metal and alternative rock, I suppose, but they always seemed a lot more.. upbeat. Carefree. Just really happy to be a band.

I guess a lot of that is due to singer Sandra Nasic, who for some reason I always think sounds like she has a smile on her face - at least on their best, high-energy tracks - but also to a really tight, springy-sounding rhythm section that pushes every song along. Nasic displays a good voice now and then, and on songs such as the lovely here-opener "Break the Line" when it all comes together, it is good stuff.

A Best Of sounds like an ideal arrangement for them, since their albums never really avoided the trap of 'a few big highlights and then a fair bit of filler'. It does a good job of assembling the highlights for inspection (the opening trio of "Break the Line", "Open Yours Eyes" and their cover of "Big in Japan" being especially promising)'' (RateYourMusic)
