Any real Herb Alpert/TJB fan should know most of the songs on this collection and realize that nearly all are great songs. I personally never cared much for "Mame" or "Hello Dolly" as I'm not a fan of Dixieland or songs of that genre, by Herb or Louie or anyone else.

"Without Her" is a wintry, atmospheric Harry Nilsson composition that was one of the few songs to garner notice off of Blood, Sweat & Tears first album, 1968's CHILD IS FATHER TO THE MAN. I believe it was sung on that album by high-strung and temperamental BS&T founder and keyboardist Al Kooper, who left the band before they found their biggest fame with soulful lead singer David Clayton-Thomas on their 2nd album, the blockbuster from 1969 simply entitled BLOOD, SWEAT, & TEARS.

Herb sings it here and it is perfectly suited for his limited range. One of the few good things about the movie "The Last Tango In Paris" is its memorable theme song. Many of the other songs on FOURSIDER are available on the new reissues coming out this year, but if you are simply seeking a greatest hits collection, I would recommend this one, not the least reason being the last two tracks

Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass - Whipped Cream
To enjoy the song better, it is best that one uses their own mind to imagine the scene in relation to the music.

Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass - A Taste of Honey

Video 1966

Great tune.

Outstanding instrumental and video

"A Taste of Honey," featuring three trumpet lines, is a complex, tempo-shifting piece that is both sensuous and playful. Throughout, Herb Alpert could smoothly integrate his own crystal-clear trumpet with crisp percussion, a distinctive rhythm guitar, a delicate marimba, or a droll, dulcet trombone. His music was one of a kind...

Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass - Sunny

Video 1969

He is a class act and an artist of the highest degree of talent, These specials that Herb did back in the 60s were incredibly well done, tasteful, stylish, creative, and classy. Oh and the music was out of this world.
