"Love Is The Future" is a spare Pharrell-style groove with a rapped bridge by De La Soul's Posdnuos. "Cry For You" is laced with Hip Hop beats. "Started Right" is Stevie Wonder meets Chic, groovy and clever. "Dark Night" is a catchy Pop song with guitars wailing in the background.

Other highlights are the Prince-style ballad "White Wine And Fried Chicken", "Easy To Get" (with nice bubbly synths), the house-y "Need You Now" (laced with some soulful vocals), while the closing title track finds Taylor singing "Why make sense, when the world refuses? Why be tough when strength is just for losers" to clattery percussion, echoing and dizzying effects.

Alexis Taylor's airy falsetto floats effortlessly above tracks giving a sense of dancefloor ennui. Sometimes, less is more.

Why Make Sense?" is Hot Chip's 6th album and the band's best since "One Life Stand." Okay, so there was only one album in between "One Life Stand" and "Why Make Sense?", but it feels like it's been a long time. "One Life Stand" was an instant classic and the album that really made me fall in love with this band. Unfortunately, "In Our Heads" didn't quite live up to the band's previous efforts. But "Why Make Sense?" stands strong in the band's catalog.

This album is filled with all the things that make Hot Chip great. Jammed with groovy beats accompanied by R&B, Hip-Hop, Electronic, and Dance influences, this is an album that will make you get up and move. The production is smooth and doesn't get in the way of the band's diverse sound.

Album highlights include "Huarache Lights," "Dark Night," and "Easy To Get," but the entire album is consistently strong. That isn't to say that the album is consistent in sound. While the songs do flow together, this is an album that blends genres and pushes boundaries. Whether you're listening to the more subdued tracks like "White Wine and Fried Checking" or the dancey "Need You Now," this album delivers again and again.

With "Why Make Sense?", Hot Chip is back. So get those dance shoes out of the closet and dust them off. Let Alexis Taylor's soulful vocals and the band's groovy beats take control of your body.
