"This album's got it all: heaving Sabbathian riffs, weird song structures and timing signatures, and the bludgeoning drumming of Dale Crover. There's even a hint of southern rock in the masterpiece that is “Revolve”. Be sure to check out the music video for “Revolve” for some stony amusement. Opening track “Skweetis” blasts your ass with the brutish drumming of Dale C and some of the most bizarre, yet monstrous riffing of King Buzzo. The first four songs here are definite headbangers and some of the finest offerings in The Melvins catalog.
One thing The Melvins have always done exceptionally well is ambiance as demonstrated with “Goose Freight Train”, “Shevil”, and album closer “Lividity”. “Shevil” in particular is a highlight that shows the gentler side of Dale C and the ever-witty (and slightly nonsensical) lyrics of King B. Betwixt. “Shevil” and “Lividity” is a little gem of an instrumental called “June Bug”, which showcases the bass guitar baddassery of Mark D and more balls-out riffage and drumset devastation. "
