never before heard music from the likes of Bonobo, Herbie Hancock, Dobie and Dave Invisible, it's a who's who of music legends and If Music's aesthetic representatives.
If Music is a legendary record shop which opened it's doors in 2003, and since then it's thrived. The proprietor Jean-Claude and Ninja go way back; he's been a close friend of Cinematic Orchestra's J Swinscoe for years, and DJ'ed at the Royal Albert Hall shows that the band played.
Ninja isn't alone in being close to J-C and If Music. Mark Ronson thanks the store for 'saving me from falling into a sea of American musical mediocrity.' Plantlife was broken by If, SBTRKT worked in the shop for 7 years, which it hardly seems could have failed to influence his own musical formation. Jazzie B, Theo Parrish and a plethora of name DJ/producers are regularly seen hanging out in the store's comfortable, gentleman's club atmosphere
The beautifully presented album features liner notes from luminaries such as Floating Points, Marc Mac of 4 Hero, Ross Allen, Patrick Forge and Craig Kallman, the Chairman of Atlantic Records, no less. All except Cougar's Foil Epee Sabre are either brand new or previously unavailable, and as such this album is a thrilling listen, taking in cutting edge electronica, jazz, funk, introspective blues and experimental bass.
If ever a record was made for Record Store Day this is it. Long live independent stores, and long live If Music.

This video released on the eve of Record Store Day and documents the making of the If Music is 10 album, a double vinyl compilation inspired by If Music's customers, fuelled by London's music culture, and supported by a premier independent label.
