Weird Scenes Inside the Gold Mine was The Doors' second compilation album (following 13), first released in 1972. The album's title is a lyric from the song "The End".

. I don't think I have to tell you how awesome the music of The Doors is, but it's the selections and the flow and sequencing that really makes 'Weird Scenes' stand out from all the other compilations out there. There's an actual tone and mood to this, and it's rather dark and mysterious, not just the greatest hits slapped together. It sounds like an actual Doors album. There's some hits and of course the cult epics but also some obscure stuff and deeper cuts from the albums. If you are just getting into The Doors and want a decent introduction make it this one,

the Doors were more than just a greatest hits band, but a really significant band from the whole wave of music of the late '60s. These songs show Morrison's vocal and lyrical talents in ways that overplayed songs like Hello I Love You never can. It showed that Jim Morrison wasn't just a vapid rock singer, but a poet with a message.

has a few hits, but many deeper tracks that show not only Morrison, but the whole band, at their peak form. The songs flow so well from one to the next that you just can't stop listening. Some of the songs bridge both hits and deep tracks (LA Woman, Riders on the Storm), and some underplayed or nearly unavailable songs (Love Street, Who Scared You), are hidden gems that are every bit as good as the band's biggest hits

Two of the songs, "Who Scared You" and "(You Need Meat) Don't Go No Further", had not appeared on any previous album.

The Doors - Riders on the storm
absolutely DOORS - classic, so many covers exist of this song, but the original is the best
what a coda for jim.... so poetic to just drift out like rain mist into a light moonlight storm.
apparently this was the last song recorded with Jim Morrison...
