Third Man Records is humbled to be a part of such a stellar confluence of literature, art and music in handling the vinyl release of the soundtrack to Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby.

In an effort to present an object that integrates all the inter-connected components of this release, Third Man Records has gone the extra mile with their limited-edition version of the soundtrack in pioneering a never-before released method for vinyl records.

You could say that Lurhmann "Moulin Rouged" The Great Gatsby. Luhrmann also had reasons behind this choice as a filmmaker, hoping to engage today's viewers with music that they associate with today's party lifestyle, in order to give scenes the emotional impact on a viewer that these moments would have for the revelers of 1922 -- avoiding the feeling of quaintness that can accompany a party scene scored with completely period music, no matter how shocking or naughty it was at the time. However, I find that this soundtrack is much better than the "Romeo + Juliette" or "Moulin Rouge" movies, as all of the songs (except for Jack White's Love Is Blindless, which is a U2 cover, "Love Is The Drug" which is a nice Jazz reworking of a song by Roxy Music, and probably more that I am forgetting)

I found this soundtrack to be very interesting as most of the songs take direct cues of jazz songs that make up the Art Deco era, and incorporate them very seamlessly into the songs, which gives it a nice, refreshing and new take on music. {You can expecially hear this on Will.i.am's Bang Bang, or A Little Party Never Killed Anybody.
